Paris Olympics 2024 Wrestling: Rei Higuchi vs Aman Sehrawat head-to-head record

Rio Olympics 2016 silver medallist wrestler Rei Higuchi from Japan will compete with India’s young wrestler Aman Sehrawat in the 57kg weight category semi-final bout at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday, August 8.

The two wrestlers have locked horns on only one occasion in the past, in the final of the 2nd Ranking Series - Polyak Imre and Varga Janos Memorial in June 2024. Rei Higuchi convincingly won the bout 11-1 to secure the gold medal while Aman Sehrawat settled for a silver medal.

In the ongoing 2024 season, Rei Higuchi has added two gold medals to his cabinet. Apart from the Polyak Imre event, he also secured gold at the Grand Prix 2024 tournament.

Earlier at the Rio Olympics in 2016, Rei stunned Kyong Yang by 12-2, Asadulla Lachinau by 10-0, Bonne Rodriguez by 8-4, and Hassan Sabzali by 10-5 to advance into the final of the competition.

However, in the final, he lost to Georgia's Vladimer Khinchegashvili 3-4 to settle for a silver medal. Interestingly, he failed to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 at his home as he missed the weigh-in by 50 grams.

Later in 2022, he secured a gold medal at the World Championships and showcased his dominance in Asia with another gold medal at the Asian Championships in 2022.

On the other hand, Aman Sehrawat secured a gold medal at the Asian Championships in 2023 and picked up a bronze medal at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China.

He has secured five medals at Grand Prix events over the last three years. Furthermore, he bagged a gold medal at the World U23 Championships in 2022.
