Paris Olympics' silver medal winning shooter Kim Ye-ji collapses during press conference
Kim Ye-ji, who became a social media sensation after the picture of her keeping her left hand inside her pocket and shooting with her right to bag a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, suddenly collapsed during a press conference in Ismil. She was speaking at Ismil, a county in the southern part of South Korea she represented for seven years.
A county official said that she had been taken to the hospital as well after she regained consciousness. However, she did not receive CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), which was mentioned in some reports. She will be staying in the hospital for further observation until she recovers completely.
Who is Kim Ye-ji?
Kim Ye-ji is a South Korean shooter who took part in the women's 10m air pistol event, where India's Manu Bhaker took part too. Notably, Kim went on to win the silver medal, whereas Bhaker brought back home a bronze.
India's medal tally at Paris Olympics 2024
India has won a total of five medals so far at the Paris Olympics. The first medal was won by Manu Bhaker, as mentioned above, who in the process became the first Indian woman shooter to win a medal at the Olympic Games.
Post that, she teamed up with fellow shooter Sarabjot Singh, to win a bronze in the mixed 10m air pistol event. The third medal came through Swapnil Kusale, who became the first Indian shooter to win in the men's 50m 3P discipline. He won a bronze medal too.
The fourth medal came in the form of the Indian hockey team, as they cruised past Spain in the bronze medal game, to fetch India yet another bronze in the ongoing Games. Lastly, the fifth medal was roped in by Neeraj Chopra who won a silver in the men's javelin throw event.
Vinesh Phogat would have also been a medal winner in the Paris Olympics if she hadn't been disqualified. She has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) for a shared silver medal, with the verdict to be out soon.
