Paris Paralympics 2024 Para-Athletics: Bhavanaben Ajabaji Chaudhary finishes fifth in women’s javelin throw F46 final
India’s Paris Paralympics 2024 para-athletics journey suffered a setback as debutant Bhavanaben Ajabaji Chaudhary finished in fifth place in the final round of the women’s javelin throw F46 event on Friday.
The 26-year-old para javelin thrower from Gujarat registered a personal-best valid throw of 39.70m in the event. Despite her performance, she finished way below the eventual gold medal winner Naibys Daniela Morillo Gil of Venezuela, who created a new Paralympic record with a valid throw of 43.77m.
Bhavanaben started with a throw of 37.31m, which immediately put her in the top half of the table in a surprising development. However, she failed to improve upon her score on her second attempt, as she registered a throw of only 36.40m to drop to sixth place.
Bhavanaben then upped her game in the next attempts, registering valid throws of 39.64m and 39.70m in her third and fourth attempts, respectively to rise to fourth spot in the rankings.
However, after a failed fifth attempt, the para-athlete dropped to fifth place and could not recover her form as she registered a poor throw of 35.39m in her final attempt.
As a result, she finished the Paris Paralympics 2024 para-athletics women’s javelin throw F46 event in fifth place, failing to challenge for a podium finish.
Despite never being considered a medal hopeful, Bhavanaben Ajabaji Chaudhary will be disappointed that she failed to make another addition to the country’s Paris Paralympics 2024 para-athletics medal tally. However, she can be proud of herself, as she evidently gave it her all at the Stade de France stadium on Friday.
