Paris Paralympics 2024 Para Powerlifting: Kasthuri Rajamani finishes 8th in women's up to 67kg final

India's para-powerlifter Kasthuri Rajamani tried her best but failed to make an impression at the Paris Paralympics 2024. Kasthuri competed in the women's up to 67kg final on Friday, September 6, and ended her campaign in the sixth position.

The event at the La Chapelle Arena had nine of the world's most talented para-powerlifters compete. With such strong competition to beat, Rajamani would have hoped to gain early momentum by making a good start to the final.

However, that was not the case as the Indian was the lone contender to have finished the first round of attempts without a registered lift. Kasthuri had listed her first attempt at 106kg. Although she got a nod of approval from one of the three judges, the other two ruled against her.

The Tamil Nadu-born para-athlete then attempted to lift the same weight again and was successful. With some confidence to back her, she attempted a weight of 110kg in her final attempt. Unfortunately for her, she registered three failed attempts, ending her campaign in Paris far from a podium finish.

Kasthuri Rajamani sets great example regardless of a somber outing at the Paris Paralympics 2024

Kasthuri Rajamani made her maiden appearance at the prestigious Paralympic Games at 40. There was a wide smile on her face the moment she registered her first successful lift.

Kasthuri probably realized how big of an achievement it was for her to have represented her country on the world stage. Even after her campaign, she was seen waving and blowing kisses to her supporters in the arena.

Although Kasthuri Rajamani did not come close to a medal, she can still leave the quadrennial event with her head held up high. She has set an example for all young athletes to never give up and to keep working towards their dreams.
