After Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat progressed through to the men’s 57kg freestyle event semi-finals in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday, fans across social media urged the athlete to keep a tight watch on his weight to avoid anything similar to Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification.
Fellow Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 ahead of her final bout in the women’s 50kg freestyle event as she was found to be 100 grams over the weight limit in the second weigh-in.
Netizens took to social media to make requests to Sehrawat, providing advice on how to make sure that the wrestler stays within his weight limit. One fan wrote:
“Aman sehrawat pls cut your hairs, don't eat anything, don't drink water till 9:45.”
One fan humorously urged the Indian Olympic Association to provide the fans with real-time updates regarding the wrestler’s weight, writing:
“Aman's weight is a matter of national importance now. Give us real time updates.”
“Prabhu mera 2 kg weight bada doh per Aman ka mat badne dena [Lord increase my weight by 2 kg, but don’t let Aman’s weight increase],” another post read.
The requests for weight check-ins continued to flood in, with one fan writing:

Aman Sehrawat beats former world champion Zelimkhan Abakarov to storm into men’s 57kg semi-finals
21-year-old Sehrawat has stunned the wrestling world by defeating former world champion Zelimkhan Akbarov of Albania in the men’s 57kg freestyle event quarter-finals on Thursday. Sehrawat defeated his Russian-born opponent by a dominant margin of 12-0, winning by technical superiority.
Sehrawat had also defeated his previous opponent in the Round of 16, Vladimir Egorov of North Macedonia, by technical superiority, winning the match 10-0.
After his qualification, Sehrawat will face Rio 2016 Olympics silver medalist Rei Higuchi of Japan in the semi-final bout on Thursday from 9:45 pm IST onwards.
