Poor air quality in Paris sparks concerns for the upcoming Summer Olympics 2024
The Summer Olympics 2024 is almost here, but the air quality in Paris has raised alarms. A new complication has come before the organizing committee of the 2024 Summer Olympics. According to a recent report by Airparif - an organization that monitors air quality in France, the air quality in Paris and almost the whole of north-central France has gone "poor."
According to experts, the issue is caused by the high concentration of ozone. It is a harmful substance if it's found at ground level. The percentage of this type of gas affects the air primarily when traffic and industrial activities respond to the sunlight. The Summer Olympics 2024 will begin on July 26th, and the issue occurred almost at the last moment before the beginning of the opening ceremony.
The air quality has gone poor just 7 days before the beginning of the big event. The opening ceremony of the Olympics is set to take place at the center of Paris, in and around the Seine River, which is situated right at the heart of the city. The organizing committee was already dealing with the quality of the Seine River and now they have an air quality issue in their hands.
There is no update on how local authorities and the organizing committee will be dealing with the issue. The Olympics are set to begin after a week, and the athletes have already started coming to the town for the same. Sports fans and the local authorities hope for a solution to the issue very soon.
Paris Mayor Swims in Seine River to showcase its cleanliness for Summer Olympics 2024
The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, has fulfilled her promise to athletes and sports fans by swimming in the Seine River on Wednesday. Anne Hidalgo, with the Olympic organizing committee, was dealing with the poor quality of water in the Seine River. However, the issue has been finally resolved and now the river is completely safe for the athletes.
“It’s sweet and wonderful and the result of a lot of work," said Anne Hidalgo right before taking the dip in the river and fulfilling her promise.
She also mentioned her promise to the International Triathlon Federation, which she made in 2015, right before the authorities started a campaign for the games.
Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris Olympics Organizing Committee, took an opportunity to congratulate all the individuals who were involved in making the Seine River safe for the athletes. The Summer Olympics 2024 will see triathlon athletes compete in the swimming section of the sport in the river.
