Swimmers Srihari Nataraj, Dhinidhi Desinghu bow out of Paris Olympics 2024
Indian swimmers Srihari Nataraj and Dhinidhi Desinghu have both bowed out of the Paris Olympics. Notably, Nataraj participated in the men's 100m backstroke event. Even though he finished second in his heats, he ended up positioned 33rd in the preliminary round.
Nataraj's timing was 55.01 seconds which was far from 16th placed Jonny Marshall's (Great Britain) 53.93 seconds. Moreover, no swimmers from Heats 1, 2 and 3 met the qualification standards. Only the top 16 swimmers were allowed to make it to the semi-finals.
Dhinidhi Desinghu, who is one of the two members of India's swimming contingent, took on a herculean task. Aged only 14, she participated in the Olympics along with Srihari Nataraj through the Universality quota. The young swimmer ended 23rd in the women's 200m freestyle heats.
Desinghu, who is also the 200m freestyle national record holder, performed really well in Heat 1 but wasn't able to make it to the top 16. Her timing was 2:06.96.
