"Temperament is the biggest issue in Indian shooting" - Fans express opinion post Sarabjot Singh's heartbreak in Paris Olympics 2024
Indian shooter Sarabjot Singh faced a heartbreak at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Saturday afternoon. Despite having the same score as German counterpart Walter Robins, he failed to qualify and make it to the medal-winning rounds of the men's 10m air pistol.
Singh, a talented shooter from India, started off in quiet fashion early on. However, consecutive 10s saw him rise into the top three. Post that, his below-par performance in the penultimate series ended up in missing out 'nearly' on qualification.
Sarabjot Singh ended on the ninth position. Only the top eight shooters were allowed to make it to the next round. Singh had a similar score of 577 to Walter Robins from Germany, but the former was not able to hit adequate inner 10. He had 16, while Robins had one more in 17 which helped the German to edge past Singh and secure his qualification. Here's what Sarabjot Singh told the broadcasters post the event:
"I thought I did well from my end, but it was a bad day. I can't understand how all of this happened. I gave it my best. But it's fine, its my first Olympics, it was a good experience and I've learned a few lessons. I need to better my technique. I'll work on it when I go back to India." [H/t Hindustan Times]
He further stated,
"I looked behind once (after that series), got distracted and my next series was bad after that. I don't usually look at the scores on the screen, I focus on my technique and how my previous shot was."

Not only Sarabjot Singh but Arjun Cheema has also failed to qualify. Cheema ended on the 18th spot with 574 points. Earlier in the day, in the 10m air rifle mixed team discipline the duo of Arjun Babuta and Ramita Jindal ended up in the sixth position, falling two spots short of qualification.
The second team from India comprising Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh ended their campaign in the 12th spot.
