How did the Indian men's archery team lose against Turkey at the Paris 2024 Olympics?
After a fine performance from Dhiraj Bommadevara put the Indian archery team through to the quarter-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympics, the expectations were high from the fans for a podium finish.
However, all that came crashing down on Monday at the Les Invalides arena as the Indian team faltered under pressure against the sixth-seeded Turkish team consisting of Olympic champion Mete Gazoz, Berkim Tumer and Abdullah Yildirmis.
The Indian team lost the first two sets with the scorelines of 53-57 and 52-55, putting Dhiraj and his teammates back by four points to nil. India sparked the hopes of making a comeback in the match by winning the third set with the narrowest of margins – 55-54 – as Turkey’s Tumer hit a seven and two nines.
However, the Turkish team fought back in the final set. India lost the final set to eventually lose the game 2-6.
The Indian men's archery team’s loss followed the women’s team’s loss on Sunday when the team led by star archer Deepika Kumari lost to the Netherlands with the scoreline of 0-6 (51-52, 49-54, 48-53.)
