The Indian hockey team is being showered with love and praise from all corners, and deservedly so. The Men in Blue put up a sensational show to defeat Great Britain in the quarter-finals of the men's hockey tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Indian team won 4-2 in the penalty shootouts today (August 4) to book their spot in the semi-final of the Summer Games. India went up against Great Britain in the first quarter-finals of the event in Paris. There was not much to separate between the two sides at the end of the four quarters, with the scores being tied at 1-1.
However, India put up a great show in the penalty shootouts to close out the game in their favor. From the penalty takers to the goalkeeper of the team, the entire Indian hockey contingent has been basking in the congratulatory messages being extended to them from all over the country.
The Indian hockey team's fans took to the social media platform X (Twitter) to express their feelings on India's emphatic victory.

Indian hockey team comes out triumphant in the quarter-finals against all odds
The Indian hockey team deserves special applause for having won the crucial knockout game with a player short. The team's defender, Amit Rohidas, had to leave the field of play with a red card in the second quarter.
However, India did not lose their confidence, and their captain, Harmanpreet Singh, scored a goal right after, giving them the lead. Though India did concede a goal in the game, they did extremely well in their defense to keep the scoreline at 1-1 at the end of full-time.
By winning the shootout and eventually the match, India has now advanced into the semi-finals, which are scheduled to be played on August 6.
