“Thought she was in Patna & not Paris” - Netizens slam Antim Panghal after wrestler and entourage deported from France due to sister’s antics

Indian wrestler Antim Panghal has been deported from France along with her entire entourage and support staff after her sister Nisha was detained trying to enter the Paris 2024 Olympics Village using the wrestler’s accreditation.

Netizens reacted with fury and bewilderment as the news of the Indian wrestler’s deportation broke out, with fans blaming her for failing to respect the rules and regulations of a foreign country. One fan wrote:

“Antim Panghal's sister thought she was in Patna & not Paris.”

“The problem with these people is that they think every place is like India where such issues are taken lightly! Impersonation/ Using other persons ID card is disastrous!” another post read.

“Why they have to break the rules? When Indians understand world is not same as india that go and break the rules and nobody cares,” another fan posted.

“Before sending to them to Olympics to represent our nation, they should be given lessons on civics sense and how to follow rules so that they don't cause international embarrassment to us,” another fan wrote on X.

One fan blamed Antim Panghal’s management team as well as the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) officials for failing to prevent this incident.

“What is the management doing there?? Sleeping? Every hour some or other mistake and athletes are returning," a fan posted.
“What exactly our IOA administrators are doing there, apart from enjoying holiday 🛍🎈⛱ ? This is really embarrassing 😑,” another person wrote.

Antim Panghal sent back home after disciplinary breach at Paris 2024 Olympics

To say that Antim Panghal’s journey at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics has been a disaster would be an understatement. The 19-year-old wrestler shocked the country when she won the Olympic quota in the women’s 53kg quota over Vinesh Phogat, and she was one of the Indian athletes expected to challenge for a medal in France.

However, Antim’s Paris journey ended in 101 seconds, as she lost 10-0 via technical superiority to Turkey’s Zeynep Yetgil in the opening round itself.

After her humbling defeat on the mat, she faced further embarrassment when her sister Nisha was detailed by the Olympic Village security after she tried to enter the premises using the wrong accreditation.

Following this fiasco, Antim’s accreditation was canceled by the Paris 2024 authorities, and her entire entourage was flown back to India by IOA officials as punitive measures.

However, Antim Panghal cleared the air over this issue, claiming the reports as 'false.'
