[Watch] Athletes post hilarious videos of jumping and running on Paris 2024 Olympics cardboard beds
With the Paris 2024 Olympics starting on July 26, discussions around the use of cardboard beds at the Olympic Village have been going on among athletes and fans alike. Some athletes have put the cardboard beds to the test, and have posted the results on social media.
Australian tennis stars Daria Saville and Ellen Perez used their own training to put the beds under strain and posted the hilarious video on Instagram. In the video, the duo performed resistance band training, jump squats, and other tennis moves on the bed. They even smashed a racket on it, but the bed withstood the pressure throughout.
“Testing out the cardboard beds at the Olympic Village,” they captioned the post.
British diver Tom Daley posted one of the most hilarious videos of the lot. The 30-year-old first showed off the beds, which were first seen in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, and demonstrated that the entire structure is made of cardboard.
“This is cardboard,” he said in the video. “As you can see, it’s like a box.”
He then filmed himself jumping up and down the bed, which he showed to be made entirely of cardboard. He added:
“As you can see, they're pretty sturdy!”
Irish artistic gymnast Rhys McClenaghan was probably the athlete who put the beds under the most rigorous test. In the video, the athlete went ahead to debunk the ‘anti-sex’ property of the cardboard beds. He then filmed himself jumping, running, and even performing a handstand on the beds, which did not damage the structure.
“When I tested them last time, they withstood my testing. Maybe I wasn't rigorous enough…” he said in the video.
Australian swimmer criticizes Paris 2024 Olympics cardboard beds, calls them ‘rock solid’
Not every Paris 2024 Olympics athlete had positive things to say about the cardboard beds, though. Australian water polo star Tilly Kearns posted a video where she described the beds as ‘rock solid’, even in the parts where they are supposed to be soft.
“The first night on cardboard beds. Already had a massage to undo the damage,” Kearns wrote in the video.
