[Watch] Indian boxing contingent members Nikhat Zareen, Preeti Pawar and Jaismine Lamboria return to a warm reception in New Delhi
Members of the Indian boxing contingent, Nikhat Zareen, Preeti Pawar, and Jasmine Lamboria, returned to New Delhi from the Paris Olympics 2024. The trio landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi during the morning hours today (August 5) and were received with garlands.
In a video posted by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) on the social media platform X (Twitter), the three female pugilists can be seen being welcomed back. The video was posted with the following caption:
"Our #Boxing contingent consisting Preeti Pawar, Nikhat Zareen and Jaismine Lamboria returned this morning and were given a warm welcome at the Indira Gandhi Airport, New Delhi. Super proud of you champions. Keep the Indian flag flying high," read the post on X.
Though the three gave it their best in Paris, neither of them could return with a podium finish. While Nikhat competed in the women's 50kg category, Preeti and Jasmine featured in the 54kg and 57kg, respectively. Neither of the three members of the Indian boxing contingent could go past the Round of 16 at the Summer Games.
Indian boxing contingent ends Paris Olympics 2024 campaign with no medals to show
The Indian boxing contingent would be disappointed with how their campaign ended. Though there were boxers from the contingent who went further in the tournament, none of them could finish with a medal. Nishant Dev and Lovlina Borgohain went the farthest with both featuring in the quarter-finals.
Nishant had to suffice with a controversial loss to Mexico's Marco Alonso Verde Álvarez in the men's 71kg quarter-finals. On the other hand, Lovlina lost a split decision to Li Qian of China in the women's 75kg quarter-final.
Both Nikhat and Preeti qualified for the Round of 16. However, while Zareen lost her round of 16 encounters to Wu Yu of China, Preeti went down to Yeni Marcela Arias Castaneda of Columbia. Jaismine could not go past Round of 32.
Amit Panghal lost his men's 51kg round of 16 match to Zambian pugilist Patrick Chinyemba.
