“This flame represents our collective spirit” - Abhinav Bindra on being part of the Paris 2024 Olympics torch relay

Bindra made history after winning India’s first individual Olympic gold medal at the Beijing 2008 Games, winning the men's 10-meter air rifle event. As a result of his achievement, he was earlier selected to be a part of this year’s Olympic torch relay event.

The relay event has been happening from April 16 to July 26.

“Excited to share that I’ll be a torch bearer for the @paris2024 Olympic Games, a beacon of peace and perseverance across the globe. This flame represents our collective spirit and the power of dreams. A great privilege and honour!” Bindra had posted on the social media platform X.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently conferred the 41-year-old Bindra with the Olympic Order for his contribution to the Olympic Movement.

Meanwhile, the 21-member shooting contingent representing India at the Paris 2024 Olympics will be hopeful of recreating Abhinav Bindra’s feats in Beijing. The shooting contingent has won a quota in every category – the first time this has happened in India’s history.

Shooting stars such as Esha Singh, Manu Bhaker, Anjum Moudgil, and Elavenil Valarivan, among others, will be hopeful of achieving a podium finish in the Paris 2024 Olympics, which is set to start on July 26.

The shooting events will start on July 26 and will conclude on August 5.
