[Watch] Indian men’s archery team in action as they secure a quarter-final berth in Paris 2024 Olympics

The Indian men’s archery team secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympics on Thursday, July 25, as the three male archers scored a combined 2013 points, taking India to third place ahead of China.

In an Instagram post, the Indian account of the IOC posted a video of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai, and Pravin Jadhav taking part in the individual ranking round of the men’s archery event of this year’s Summer Olympics.

“2013 points = A place in the quarter-final. Shaabash, Indian men’s archery team!” the caption read.

22-year-old Dhiraj Bommadevara, who has been India’s star archer for the last couple of years, showed composure beyond his years and finished his debut Olympic round with an aggregate score of 681, bagging fourth place.

Meanwhile, four-time Olympian Tarundeep Rai showed his experience, as the 40-year-old from Sikkim finished in 14th place with an aggregate score of 674. Pravin Jadhav, who was a part of the 2019 World Championships silver medal-winning recursive team, scored 658 points and finished in 39th place.

The Indian men’s archery team will now face either Turkey or Colombia in the quarter-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympics. Turkey finished in sixth place (1992 points), while Colombia finished in 11th place (1970 points).


Indian men’s archery team follows women's team to Paris 2024 Olympics quarter-finals

Before the heroics of the Indian men’s archery team, the women's team set the tempo for the event by sealing a quarter-final place at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Asian Games bronze medalist Ankita Bhakat had the game of her life as she scored a season-best of 666 points. Bhakat finished the event in 11th place and sealed a quarter-final sport for the Indian women’s archery team.

Olympic debutant Bhajan Kaur finished in 22nd place after scoring 659 points, while veteran archer Deepika Kumari finished in 23rd place with an aggregate score of 658.

The Indian women’s archery team finished the round with 1983 points, taking the fourth spot. Now, they will face either the Netherlands or hosts France in the quarter-finals.
