Watch: Neeraj Chopra hits the ground running straight after landing in Paris for Olympics 2024
Neeraj Chopra did not take long to start training for Paris Olympics 2024. The javelin thrower reached the French capital on Tuesday (July 30) along with the rest of the athletics contingent and began his training to stay in shape before his event. Chopra is one of the strongest contenders to win a medal for India in the ongoing Olympic Games.
Back in the 2021 Games in Tokyo, Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal with a stupendous throw of 87.58 metres. He also became the second Indian athlete after Norman Pritchard to win a medal in track and field events at the Olympics. While Pritchard won silver in Paris 1900, Chopra finished on top of the podium three years ago in Tokyo.
After reaching Paris, Chopra dropped a post where he uploaded pictures and a video from his training session. Captioning the post, he wrote:
“Namaskar Paris. Excited to finally reach the Olympic Games village."
Can Neeraj Chopra add to India’s tally of medals in the Paris Olympics 2024?
India has already won two medals in the ongoing edition of the Olympics. Manu Bhaker won bronze in the women’s 10m Air Pistol event on Sunday. Thereafter, she won the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event with Sarabjot Singh on Tuesday. The onus is now on Neeraj Chopra, one of India’s all-time greatest athletes.
In 2022, he pulled off his best throw of 89.94 metres at the Stockholm Diamond League. That year, he also won the gold medal in the Diamond League. Last year, Neeraj also won the gold medal in the Budapest World Championships.
Recently, he missed the Paris Diamond League and will be looking to put his best foot forward in Paris.
Athletics in Paris Olympics 2024 is scheduled to get underway on August 1 and will continue until August 11.
