PR Sreejesh and Harmanpreet Singh turned out to be India’s saviors
While Sreejesh showed his heroics near the goal post, it was the Indian team captain, Harmanpreet Singh, who stood as a hero for the nth time, as he scored two important goals to take the side ahead of the opposition.
Just when the Indian team was 0-1 down before half-time, Harmanpreet found the net on a penalty corner in the 30th minute to score the equalizer. Earlier, Spain's first goal came from Marc Miralles on a penalty stroke in the 18th minute.
Just after the half time, Harmanpreet stood tall yet again, scoring another goal in the 33rd minute on a penalty to take India to a 2-1 lead. Though the Indian team got more opportunities to convert in the third quarter, they couldn’t make it big.
The fourth quarter was intense, with Spain turning on their aggressive gameplay. However, PR Sreejesh showcased his exceptional defensive skills in one of the most important games of his career to keep the final scoreline 2-1 in India’s favor.
With 10 goals in the campaign, the skipper Harmanpreet Singh rose to the occasion on the biggest stage for Team India. It was the fourth medal for the Indian contingent at the Paris Olympics 2024 - Interestingly, all of them have so far been bronze.
