India's medal hopes are not yet over at the Paris Olympics 2024. Fans broke down post Lakshya Sen's defeat in the bronze-medal match of the badminton men's singles event yesterday (August 5). But, Vinesh Phogat has now given rise to new expectations, as she has successfully qualified to the last eight of the 50kg women's wrestling event.
Phogat, who had been wrestling off the field for a long time against many odds, has defeated Japan's Yui Susaki who is actually the gold medalist from the Tokyo Olympics three years back. After she defeated the Japanese wrestler, Vinesh Phogat was herself in disbelief.
She was trailing by two points with 10 seconds left on the clock and then she registered a masterclass comeback to seal her place in the quarter-finals.

Vinesh Phogat's future in Paris Olympics 2024
Vinesh Phogat won 3:2 against Yui Susaki today and will now be taking on Oksana Livach from Ukraine in the quarter-finals, which is scheduled for 3:40 PM IST today (August 6).
If Phogat is able to defeat the Ukrainian, she will be a part of the semi-finals and for sure earn a medal. India has till now won three medals and all of them have come in shooting. Notably, it was Manu Bhaker who won India's first medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, in the form of a bronze in the women's 10m air pistol event. Next up, Bhaker partnered Sarabjot Singh to bring home yet another bronze, this time in the mixed team 10m air pistol discipline.
Swapnil Kusale, who finished third in the men's 50m 3P, won India's third medal. Currently, the most notable candidate to secure a medal for India is Neeraj Chopra, who has qualified for the javelin throw final.
And now it's Vinesh Phogat, who will be upbeat to bring home a medal.
