Mirabai Chanu has always been a strong performer in clean and jerk as the 29-year-old has previously held the world record at 119 kg in the same. However, if the silver medalist from the Tokyo Olympics 2020 hopes to repeat her performance from the last Olympic Games or even better it, she will need to perform equally well in snatch.
Mirabai Chanu - India’s lone representative in weightlifting at Paris Olympics 2024
Throughout her career so far, Mirabai Chanu has never shied away from carrying the hopes of a billion dreams on her shoulders all by herself.
The Assamese athlete was India’s lone representative in weightlifting at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, where she succeeded in becoming only the second after Karnam Malleswari to win the country a medal in weightlifting at the quadrennial event. Yet again, Mirabai is gearing up to be India’s lone ranger in weightlifting at the upcoming Summer Olympics.
Prior to the opening of the games, the Padma Shri awardee will be slightly concerned with her recent battles with injuries. The gold medalist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Chanu had to go through a serious hip injury at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, which eventually forced her out of action for five months.
Known for her toughness, the weightlifter will be inspired to put any obstacles behind her as she ventures on an ambitious journey of winning a record second Olympic medal in Paris.
