What does the Eiffel Tower symbol next to an athlete's name on X (Twitter) mean? Know all about the unique batch unveiled for Paris 2024 Olympics
A unique badge with an Eiffel Tower symbol is visible on the X (formerly Twitter) profiles of certain athletes competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics. The badge is visible next to the names of these athletes on their page.
The badge falls under the social media platform X's 'affiliate badges' criteria and is explained as the following.
"Affiliation badges indicate that an account is connected to an organization on X. The affiliation badge contains the profile photo of a Verified Organization and is applied to all the affiliates of that organization," states X.
The said badge is unique and has been especially unveiled for the Summer Games in Paris. It is added exclusively to only the profiles of those athletes who have won a medal at the quadrennial event. Also, it is applicable to only the verified profiles on X.
The symbol of the Eiffel Tower is used since the French monument is one of the most prominent structures in the world. The iconic Eiffel Tower stands tall in Paris, where the games are being held, and the badge on X is an ode to it. In a way, serves as a token of appreciation for the many achievers in Paris.
Manu Bhaker first Indian athlete to be honored with the Eiffel Tower badge on X
Manu Bhaker is currently the only Indian athlete who has been bestowed the badge on X. The honor comes after she won India the bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol individual event. In doing so, she became the first woman shooter from India to win an Olympic medal.
The talented 22-year-old then went on to clinch another bronze medal in the mixed team 10m air pistol event along with her partner Sarabjot Singh. Though also a medal winner, Sarabjot does not have the badge on his X profile as of yet. This is possibly due to him not having a verified profile.
India will be hoping to see plenty more of its athletes win medals in Paris and get bestowed with badges on X.
