At London 1948, India won their first gold as an independent nation in men's hockey. In 1952 Helsinki, the hockey team clinched their fifth gold medal. The Indian hockey team went on to claim another three gold medals, making it eight in the sport.

Neeraj Chopra failed to win gold at Paris Olympics 2024

Neeraj Chopra, the defending champion from the 2020 Olympics, lost to Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem. Chopra's season-best of 89.45m in the Paris Olympics 2024 javelin final wasn't enough to clinch the gold medal.

Nadeem raised the bar with a blistering throw of 92.97m, breaking the Olympic record by more than 2 meters in the process. Chopra couldn't respond to Nadeems extraordinary effort as he finished with the silver.

His first try was a foul, while in the second, he registered his season-best throw of 89.45m, which was eventually enough to get him the silver. Chopra fouled again in the next four attempts as Nadeem created history for his country.
