Born on September 5, Ajeet Singh Yadav from Nagla Bidhi village in Etawah district, Uttar Pradesh, is set to represent India in the javelin throw at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
A tragic train accident in December 2017 resulted in the loss of his left arm below the elbow. The train accident that led to his disability was a turning point in Ajeet's life.
Following the accident, he faced a long and challenging recovery period. Training rigorously at the Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education in Gwalior and now at Sonipat, Ajeet has dedicated himself to mastering his craft. Currently pursuing a PhD in Physical Education and Sports from LNIPE, Gwalior, Ajeet has shown immense perseverance.
A deeper look at Ajeet Singh's career
Ajeet's journey in para-athletics began after his accident, and it didn’t take long for him to make his mark internationally. He made his debut at the 2019 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Beijing, China, where he clinched a gold medal in the javelin throw. This victory was just the beginning of a series of remarkable performances.
His impressive performance earned him a spot at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. He finished fourth with a commendable throw of 62.11 meters.
He continued to excel, winning a bronze medal at the World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai the same year. In 2021, he secured another gold medal at the Para Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai.
His most recent triumph came at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships held in Paris. Competing in the Men’s Javelin Throw F46 category, he delivered a stellar performance with a throw of 65.41 meters, securing the gold medal and breaking the previous record held by Chunliang Guo of China, who had a throw of 61.89 meters.
