Who is Diksha Dagar? All you need to know about the Indian golfer competing at Paris Olympics 2024

Indian golfer, Diksha Dagar, will make her second Olympic appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Dagar’s debut at the quadrennial event came at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where she qualified as a last-minute entry. Having finished T-50 in Tokyo, Diksha would be hoping to put in a much stronger performance in the Games in Paris.

Born in Jhajjar, Haryana, Diksha is the only golfer in the world to have competed at both the Olympics and the Deaflympics. In fact, the 23-year-old is a two-time medallist at the Deaflympics, including the gold she won in 2022 in Brazil. The golfer who had to start wearing hearing aids at age six, is the only deaf athlete to represent India at Olympics.

Having turned professional in 2019, Diksha Dagar became the first Indian golfer to play hundred tournaments on the Ladies European Tour (LET). The feat was achieved when she teed off at the Aramco Team Series 2024 in the Republic of Korea in May this year.


A look at Diksha Dagar’s achievements as she gears up to compete at Paris 2024 Olympics

At 18-years-old, Diksha Dagar won the 2019 South African Open by going past South Africa’s Lee-Anne Pace, a four-time champion. She was the youngest Indian woman to win on the LET and was only the second to do so since Aditi Ashok. Prior to that, the golfer had won the silver in 2017 Deaflympics in Turkey.

Dagar’s second title on the Ladies European Tour came at the Czech Ladies Open in 2023. In the same year, she was also awarded with the prestigious Arjuna Award.

Diksha Dagar is part of a four-member Indian golf contingent that will compete in Paris. Diksha and Aditi Ashok are the two female golfers participation. The other two slots are taken by male golfers Shubhankar Sharma and Gaganjeet Bhullar.

Diksha will be seen in action at the women's event which will take place from August 7-10. The event will be held at at Le Golf National near Paris.
