Who is Lovlina Borgohain? All you need to know about the Indian boxer competing at Paris Olympics 2024
Lovlina Borgohain is one of the three Indian boxers who have won a medal in the Olympics. Back in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Vijender Singh won India’s first medal after which Mary Kom achieved the landmark in London back in 2012. Thereafter, in 2020, Lovlina finished on the podium when she won the bronze medal in the women’s 69 kg category.
Lovlina assured India a medal when she defeated former world champion Chen Nien-chin in the quarterfinals. She won bronze after losing to Turkey’s Busenaz Surmeneli in the semi-final. She took part in the women’s 75 kg middleweight division after the 69 kg category was discontinued.
Lovlina, however, was not happy and said that she would try and go for gold in the Paris Olympics.
“My dream is unfulfilled. I failed to win the gold medal. I am not satisfied with my performance. The goal is to live my dream of winning the gold medal in the next Olympics,” Lovlina told India Today in an interview back in 2021.
She is a part of India’s boxing continent for the Paris Olympics 2024 along with the likes of Nikhat Zareen, Amit Panghal, Nishant Dev, Jasmine Lambodia and Preeti Pawar.
Lovlina is also one of the Tokyo Olympics medal-winning athletes to take part in Paris 2024 along with Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu, and Mirabai Chanu.
How did Lovlina Borgohain qualify for the Paris Olympics?
