Who is Ramita Jindal? All you need to know about the Indian shooter competing at Paris 2024 Olympics

With the Paris 2024 Olympics starting on July 26, Indian riflewoman Ramita Jindal is one of the rising stars of the 21-member shooting contingent taking part in this year’s summer Olympic Games.

20-year-old Ramita Jindal has been a shooting sensation for India, and she became a household name for all shooting fans after having a “dream come true” 2022 Asian Games, where she bagged two medals.

Despite her young age, she overcame competition from established athletes, such as 2023 Baku World Championships gold medalist Mehuli Ghosh, to book herself a berth at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Now in the French capital, along with the record-sized shooting contingent of India, Ramita will look to shoulder the pressure and expectations and deliver on the biggest stage of all.


Ramita Jindal’s career

Ramita Jindal was born in the Ladwa town of Haryana. Her shooting journey began when she joined a local shooting academy at the age of 13. Her perseverance and talent resulted in her securing podium finishes at distinct and state-level matches.

Earning her place at the national-level competitions, Jindal showed early promise as she won a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle event at the 2021 Junior World Championships in Lima.

The following year was the most successful one for Ramita, as she won one individual and one team gold medal at the 2022 Junior World Championships in Cairo. She then announced herself to the world by winning a gold medal at the 2022 ISSF World Cup in Baku. She then won a gold medal at the 2022 ISSF World Cup in Changwon in the 10m air rifle team event.

However, her biggest taste of success came in the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, where she won two medals – a silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle teams event and a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle event.

Ramita Jindal has kept up her excellent form leading to the Paris 2024 Games, as she won three medals – two bronze and one silver – in the 2023 Asian Championships in Changwon.

Indian fans will be hoping that she can keep up her excellent form at the Paris 2024 Olympics shooting events, which are scheduled to start on Saturday.
