“Will come back stronger than ever” – Lovlina Borgohain looks for ‘fresh start’ after missing out on medal in Paris Olympics 2024
Lovlina Borgohain was disappointed and issued an apology to the entire nation after she failed to win a medal in the Paris Olympics 2024. Back in 2021, she became only the third Indian boxer after Vijender Singh and Mary Kom to win a medal for India in boxing in the history of the quadrennial event. With expectations of winning medals in back-to-back Olympics, Lovlina could not put her best foot forward.
However, instead of getting bogged down, the boxer pledged to make a strong comeback. Lovlina said that she wished to put in the hard yards and make a return “stronger than ever”. She also thanked the ones who supported her and helped her out in her journey.
“I really want to say sorry to the entire nation that I could not bring a medal home this time. Especially to the people of Assam who pray for me no matter what. I will work harder and come back stronger than ever next time. This is not over, looking for a fresh start once again,” Lovlina wrote in a post on her social media account.
“I also want to thank all the coaches support staff, SAI, Assam government, BFI, Reliance Sports Foundation, IOS Sports and all my sponsors for all the support and encouragement they showered on me,” Lovlina added.
How did Lovlina Borgohain perform in Paris Olympics 2024?
Lovlina Borgohain began her campaign in Paris on an emphatic note after she defeated Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad 5:0 in the Round of 16 of the women’s 75kg category. The 26-year-old boxer needed only one more win to assure India another medal in the Olympics.
However, she fell short after losing to China’s Li Qian 4:1 in the quarterfinals after a split decision. It remains to be seen whether Lovlina returns for the Los Angeles Olympics to be held in 2028.
