Women's trap participants Rajeshwari Kumari, Shreyasi Singh bow out of Paris Olympics 2024
Indian women trap shooters Rajeshwari Kumari and Shreyasi Singh have failed to make the finals of the women's trap event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Their qualification event began yesterday, and both of them finished day 2 of the qualification stages with a score of 113/125 after five rounds. Kumari placed 21st and Singh finished 22nd out of 30 shooters, with only the top six advancing to the finals.
Notably, the Paris Olympics 2024 marked the debut for both shooters, who did well in national and domestic events. The only memorable thing to take forward for Kumari is that she registered 25/25 in her third round, the only instance where an Indian shooter registered full points in the women's trap qualification.
India's Day 5 outing at Paris Olympics 2024 so far
It has been a good day 5 for India at the Paris Olympics so far, apart from a few results, such as the women's trap event qualification.
Former World No. 1 archer Deepika Kumari, who was heavily criticized for the archery team event a few days ago, has now overcome the hurdles to make it to the Round of 16 in the individual event. She defeated Netherlands' Quinty Roeffen 6-2 to advance to the pre-quarter-final stages.
On the other hand, Tokyo Olympics' bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain registered a dominating show against Norway's Sunniva Hofstad in the women's 75 kg boxing event's Round of 16 clash to advance to the last eight.
She defeated her Norwegian counterpart 5:0. A tough quarterfinal awaits Borgohain, as she will now take on China's Li Qian on Sunday, August 4 at 3:02 PM IST, the same boxer who defeated Borgohain last year in the Hangzhou Asian Games final to deprive her of a gold medal.
Birthday girl Sreeja Akula continued her magic at the showpiece event as she defeated Singapore's Zeng Jian 9-11, 12-10, 11-4, 11-5, 10-12, and 12-10 in the Round of 32 clash today. She will face China's Sun Yingsha at 12:30 AM IST tonight in the Round of 16 clash. Manika Batra will also be in action prior to Akula's fixture.
Moreover, Lakshya Sen, another debutant at the Summer Games, outwitted Indonesia's Jonatan Cristie 21-18, 21-12 to advance to the Round of 16. He may face fellow Indian shuttler HS Prannoy in the next round.
PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, has also defeated Estonia's Kristin Kuuba 21-5, 21-10 in the group stage clash.
Swapnil Kusale, who participated in the men's 50m 3P qualification rounds today, has advanced to the final after registering a score of 590-38x, attaining the seventh spot.
His final is slated for tomorrow at 1:00 PM IST. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar was also a part of the event but he finished 11th with a score of 589-33x, falling short of the top eight positions.
Lastly, Balraj Panwar clocked 7:04.97 and ended sixth to advance to the final of the men's singles sculls. His positioning in final D means he won't be getting any medals, whatever the outcome.
