“Work is in progress” - PM Narendra Modi hopes India will host Olympics in 2036
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is confident that India’s bid to host the Olympics in 2036 will be successful. He urged the Paris-bound Indian athletes to observe the arrangements made during the mega event in Paris during their free time and share their inputs for better understanding and be prepared to host the Games.
On Thursday, July 5, PM Modi had an in-person and online interaction with Paris-bound athletes. Modi confirmed that the work is in progress to prepare the infrastructure for the Olympics in 2036 and urged the athletes to share their views from their experience in Paris.
“We are hoping to host the Olympics in 2036, it will help in creating a sporting atmosphere. Work is in progress to prepare infrastructure for it,” Narendra Modi said in the interaction.
The interaction was attended by the national men’s hockey team, the shooting contingent, boxers, and track-and-field stars like Neeraj Chopra and more. The interaction’s complete video was shared by the Prime Minister’s Office on Friday.
“I won’t ask you to do anything in the middle of your events but when you are free, I would urge you to observe the arrangements. Your inputs will help our bid for 2036. We will have an understanding on how to make sure that we are better-prepared,” he added.
“I am confident our athletes will give their best and make India proud” - Narendra Modi
Narendra Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a few pictures from the interaction and he sounded confident of athletes giving their best and making India proud.
“Interacted with our contingent heading to Paris for the @Olympics . I am confident our athletes will give their best and make India proud. Their life journeys and success give hope to 140 crore Indians,” he wrote on X.
The forthcoming Paris Olympics are scheduled to be held from July 26 to August 11. Indian athletes would be confident of bettering their best medal tally of seven medals, including Neeraj Chopra’s gold medal, in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Notably, more than 100 Indian athletes made the cut for the Paris Olympics. Interestingly, a record number of 21 shooters made it to the event and would be aiming to end the medal drought of the last two Summer Games.
