WTT Contender Tunis 2024: Results at the end of Day 5

It was a decent day for the women's doubles in the ongoing WTT Contender Tunis 2024. The Indian pair of Yashaswini Ghorpade and Diya Parag moved to the finals of the tournament.

The doubles champions will receive 1000 USD in prize money and also have 400 WTT points in their kitty. The Indian duo will lock horns with Satsuki Odo and Sakura Yokoi from Japan in the grand finale.

On Saturday, June 29, Ghorpade and Parag defeated South Korea's Kim Seong-jin and Yoo Siwoo 12-14, 11-2, 11-8, 11-6 to storm into the final of the WTT Contender Tunis 2024.

Earlier in the quarter-final, the Indian duo stunned their compatriots Ayhika Mukherjee and Sreeja Akula 11-5, 11-9, 11-13, 11-8. In the Round of 16, they bagged a win over Balkis Suissi and Maram Zoghlami 11-3, 11-3, 11-5.

In other categories of the competition, Indian paddlers had unimpressive results, as none of them made it to the finals in the men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

In the men's singles, star paddlers Manav Thakkar, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, and Sharath Kamal bowed out of the WTT Contender Tunis 2024 after their poor performances in the Round-of-16 encounters.

Sreeja Akula, who had an exceptional outing in the WTT Contender Lagos after winning the singles and doubles titles, was also eliminated in the first round of the Tunis competition.

Diya Parag, Manika Batra, and Yashaswini Ghorpade also couldn't make it big in the women's singles section, as they got eliminated from the pre-quarter-finals.

In the men's doubles and mixed doubles, the poor outing continued for the Indian paddlers. The Indian pairs of Sathiyan Gnanasekaran - Harmeet Desai and Sharath Kamal - Manav Thakkar bowed out from the quarter-finals.

In the mixed doubles, Diya Parag - Manush Shah and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran - Sreeja Akula couldn't make it big as they put up an unimpressive show in the semi-finals to exit the campaign.
