Paris 2024 Olympics Day 2: Medal events for India on 28 July

Plenty of Indian athletes were in action on Day 1 of the Paris 2024 Olympics, and it was a mixed bag, with Sarabjot Singh going agonizingly close to qualifying for the Final of the 10m Air Pistol event only to miss out on an X tie-breaker.

It wasn't a great day for the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team shooters, who couldn't quite make it to the finals, with Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta finishing two places outside the Medal Match places.

However, Manu Bhaker brought the Indian fans some joy as she qualified for the Final of the 10m Air Pistol event, and all eyes will certainly be on her on Sunday as she looks to secure India's first medal in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

On that note, let's look at India's medal events on Sunday, 28 July.

1) 10m Air Pistol Women's Individual Final

Final - 03:30 PM IST

Ranked 26th in the ISSF World Rankings in the 10 M Air Pistol category, Manu Bhaker is the first Indian to qualify for a Medal Event in this Olympics, and she will carry the dreams of millions of Indians back home on her shoulders. She'll have to go up against Ranks 5, 7, and 10 to secure a medal, and that's going to be anything but easy.

However, Manu Bhaker won four medals, one gold and three silver, in the 2022 Asian Games, while also winning gold both in the ISSF World Cup and the World Championship, and comes into the Olympics with plenty of confidence. She'll definitely back herself to go all the way and aim for gold.

2) Archery Women's Team Event

Quarter-Final (05:45 PM), Semi-Final (07:15 PM), Bronze Medal and Gold Medal Match (08:15 PM Onwards)

Team India - Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Deepika Kumari.

The Indian archers will be in action on Sunday evening, and by their 4th-place finish in the ranking rounds, they will directly play in the quarter-finals.

However, they might be ruing their chance to finish in 3rd place had it not been for a couple of slip-ups in the second half of the ranking round as their most likely opponent in the semis if they win their quarter-final will be South Korea.

India will certainly be the underdogs in that contest, but the archers have what it takes to deliver on the big stage. Despite what the odds may say, Indian fans will be hoping for gold from the archers when they take to the range on Sunday evening.
