Paris 2024 Olympics Day 3: Medal events for India on 29 July
After Manu Bhaker broke records en route to becoming the first female shooter to win an Olympic Medal for India on Day 2 of the Paris Olympics 2024 and open India's medal tally for the tournament, fans will be in anticipation for what is to come on Monday, 29 July.
While the Indian Women's Archery Team's defeat in the quarter-finals was a disappointment for the Indian fans, they will hope the Men's Team fare better in their medal event on Day 3. The shooters will also have all eyes on them with there being genuine prospects of more medals from their events.
On that note, let's look at India's medal events on Monday, 29 July.
Medal Events for India at the Paris Olympics on 29 July
#1 10 M Air Rifle Women's Final
Final - 01:00 PM IST.
Ramita Jindal will be in action for India in the 10 M Air Rifle Final on Monday after she finished 5th in the Qualification Round on Sunday. The 20-year-old shooter will face some stiff competition from the final from the likes of South Korea's Ban Hyojin, who broke the Olympic Record in the Qualification Round.
However, Ramita is one of India's best shooters, winning gold at the 10 M Air Rifle category in the ISSF World Cup 2022 in Baku, in addition to a silver and bronze medal at the most recent Asian Games. She'll look to follow Manu Bhaker's footsteps and secure another medal for India in shooting.
#2 10 M Air Rifle Men's Final
Final - 03:30 PM IST.
ISSF 14th-ranked Arjun Babuta will look to be the first male Indian shooter since Gagan Narang to win an Olympic Medal for India in the 10 M Air Rifle Final set to take place in the late afternoon hours on Monday. After a disappointing 6th-place finish in the Mixed Team Qualifying Round on Saturday, Arjun did well to qualify for the Final in the Men's event, finishing 7th.
While it won't be easy to win a medal going up against so many higher-ranked shooters, Arjun has a real shot at making history for India here, and the entire nation will be rooting for him come 03:30 PM on Monday.
#3 Archery Men's Team Event
Quarter-Final (06:31 PM), Semi-Final (07:17 PM onwards), Bronze Medal and Gold Medal Match (08:18 PM Onwards)
Team India - Tarundeep Rai, Dhiraj Bommadevara, and Pravin Jadhav
After the Indian Women's Team fell to a shocking quarter-final defeat to the Netherlands on Sunday, the Men's Team will look to do much better on Monday.
Led by Dhiraj Bommadevara's stellar 4th-place finish, the Indian Men finished 3rd overall in the Team Rankings, and that could give them a real advantage in terms of the draw, as they won't have to face the giants South Korea until the Final.
India is set to take on the winner of the Round of 16 clash between Turkey and Colombia in the quarter-final, with a potential meeting with France, Italy, or Kazakhstan in the semi-finals.
While Pravin Jadhav's 37th-place finish overall is a slight concern, Dhiraj and Tarundeep's positive showings certainly give Indian fans with plenty of hope when it comes to winning a medal at this event, especially with a fairly kind draw.
