Paris Olympics 2024: India's results on August 2 – Manu Bhaker to fight for third medal, Lakshya Sen through to the semifinals
Friday, August 2, was a day to remember for Indian athletes at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Indian shooter Manu Bhaker continued her remarkable run at the Paris Olympics. Already a double medalist at these Games, Bhaker finished second in the qualification round to secure a spot in the 25m Pistol final. The 22-year-old stands a chance to win her third Olympic medal in the final, which is set to take place on Saturday.
India’s men’s singles shuttler, Lakshya Sen, pulled off an incredible comeback victory against Chou Tien Chen to secure his place in the men's singles semifinals. This victory marks India's best performance in the men's singles event at the Olympics.
The Indian men's hockey team also delivered an outstanding performance, defeating Australia 3-2. This victory is particularly significant as it marks their first Olympic win against Australia since 1972.
The mixed team of Dhiraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing in fourth place. They began their day with a victory over Indonesia in the Round of 16, followed by a win against Spain in the quarterfinals.
However, their journey to a medal was thwarted by World No. 1 South Korea in the semifinals, and they narrowly missed out on bronze against the USA. Despite the disappointment, their performance marks India’s best result in archery at the Olympics.
While there were many moments of celebration, some Indian athletes faced tough challenges. Tajinder Pal Singh Toor finished 15th in the men's shot put event, falling short of qualifying for the finals. In the women's 5000m heats, Parul Chaudhary and Ankita finished 14th and 20th, respectively. Their efforts, however, remain commendable in the face of stiff competition.
