Paris Olympics 2024: India's results on August 3 - Manu Bhaker comes agonizingly close to third medal
Day 8 of the Paris Olympics was a day of heartbreaks for the Indian contingent. Manu Bhaker, who has already made history by winning two medals at the Paris Olympics in 2024, came agonizingly close to winning her third medal. The 22-year-old shooter finished fourth after going down in a shoot-off against Veronika Major, the eventual bronze medalist.
India’s archers also narrowly lost in their respective matches, increasing India’s wait for a medal in archery. After beating Germany's Michelle Kroppen 6-4. Deepika Kumari faced off against the second seed, Suhyeon Nam from South Korea. Kumari narrowly missed advancing to the semifinals, losing 4-6 in the thrilling encounter.
India’s 18-year-old Bhajan Kaur faced Indonesia’s Diananda Choirunisa in her pre-quarterfinal match. Kaur staged an outstanding comeback to level the match and force a shoot-off. However, an eight from Kaur compared to Choirunisa’s nine saw her narrowly miss out on a place in the last eight.
In boxing, Nishant Dev’s hopes for an Olympic medal were dashed in a hard-fought bout against Mexico’s Marco Alonso Verde Alvarez. Dev put forth a valiant effort but ultimately fell short, losing 1-4.
Despite the near misses and close defeats, there remained a silver lining for the Indian team. Maheshwari Chauhan, who competed in skeet shooting, kept India's hopes alive. Chauhan is in eighth place and is within striking distance of making it to the final. With the top six advancing, her performance tomorrow is crucial.
