Paris Olympics 2024: India's results on July 28 - Manu Bhaker's exceptional performance wins her India's first medal in Paris

Day 2 of the Paris Olympics 2024 saw the Indian contingent give the nation countless reasons to celebrate. The country opened their medal tally at the Games. India's 10m Air Pistol shooter Manu Bhaker clinched a bronze in the women's final, marking a stellar start to the country’s shooting campaign.

After a mixed opening day, India’s shooters showcased their true potential at the Paris Olympics. Bhaker’s brilliant performance in the 10m air pistol women’s final earned her a well-deserved bronze, setting a positive tone for the team. Additionally, Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in their 10m Air Rifle events and secured spots in the final.

India's shuttlers continued their outstanding performance. PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy started their campaigns on a winning note. Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu breezed past Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq of the Maldives with an impressive scoreline of 21-9, 21-6 in her group stage match. Prannoy also emerged victorious in his opening match against Germany’s Fabian Roth.

In boxing, Nikhat Zareen dominated her bout against Maxi Carina Koletzer, winning 5-0.

In rowing, building on his impressive performance, Balraj Panwar went on to finish second in his repechage round heat. The army man’s effort has qualified him for the quarterfinals, and he has also helped India achieve what is now their best finish in the sport.

However, Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal faced a tough challenge in his first-round match against France’s Corentin Moutet. Despite a valiant effort, Nagal lost 2-6, 6-2, 5-7. The men's doubles pair of Rohan Bopanna and Sriram Balaji also lost in the opening round.

India’s table tennis contingent had a mixed day. Sreeja Akula and Manika Batra pulled off fantastic wins in their Round of 64 matches, advancing to the next round. However, five-time Olympian Sharath Kamal Achanta and Harmeet Desai faced defeats.

After an exceptional qualifying round, India’s women’s archery team of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, and Bhajan Kaur faced heartbreak in the quarterfinals. They lost 0-6 to the Netherlands, ending their run in the team event. However, the trio remains in contention for medals in individual events.
