Sreeja Akula, India’s top-ranked female paddler, is all set to lock horns with Singapore paddler Zeng Jian in the Round of 32 encounter at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 at South Paris Arena 4, Table 3, on Wednesday, July 31.

At the WTT Contender Lagos in June 2024, Sreeja emerged as the first Indian to win a title at the Contender level, scripting history. She defeated Sweden’s Christina Kallberg by 4-0 in the Round of 64 encounter at the Paris Olympics 2024 to bag a comprehensive win. In January this year, Sreeja secured her maiden WTT singles career title at the WTT Feeder Corpus Christi in Texas.

On the other hand, after defeating Croatia paddler Ivana Malobabic in her Round of 64 contest at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 by 4-3, Zeng Jian would be eyeing to add another win in the Round of 32 contest. However, it’s going to be a tough contest for the Singapore paddler this time around.

Zeng Jian is coming into this competition on the back of a gold medal win in the SEA Regional Olympic Qualification Tournament in May 2024. At the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, she bagged a silver medal in the women’s singles.

Zeng found it tough to beat her Round of 64 opponent from Croatia, Ivana Malobabic as she won by 4-3 while Sreeja bagged a comfortable win by 4-0 over Christina Kallberg from Sweden.

That said, Sreeja would be eyeing another comprehensive win in this encounter and make it to the pre-quarter-final contest and improve her medal chances.
