Who are Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel? All you need to know about Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty’s opponents who pulled out of Paris Olympics

Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel were slated to be the second hurdles for India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty at the Paris Olympics 2024. However, the German duo pulled out of the competition, leading to the math getting canceled.

For both Lamsfuss and Seidel, this was their second appearance at the Summer Games. Three years ago at the Tokyo Olympics, the duo were ousted in the group stages of the men's doubles after they claimed only one win.

Later in the same year, the pair made it all the way to the quarterfinals of the 2021 World Championships. Lamsfuss was on the podium at the 2022 Tokyo World Championships, taking bronze in the mixed doubles. In the men's doubles, the duo's impressive list of achievements also includes a European Championships gold, won in 2022.

As a pair, Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel have had a shaky 2024, with the former dealing with an injury. They got their year off to a strong start, making consecutive quarterfinal appearances at the Thailand Masters and the German Open, before Lamsfuss injured his knee at the French Open in March.

Since then, the two have skipped competitions, getting back on court only for the Paris Olympics. Now, with Lamsfuss' injury returning, the Germans have opted out of playing their remaining two group-stage matches at the Games.

Paris Olympics 2024: Mark Lamsfuss provides fans with an update

After the Badminton World Federation announced that Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel had withdrawn from the ongoing Paris Olympics due to injury, the former took to his Instagram to provide fans with an update.

Lamsfuss wrote he was withdrawing from the event upon his doctor's instructions and apologized to his partner Marvin Seidel.

"Game Over. During the examinations after the first game here in Paris, the doctors found that the condition of my knee had deteriorated again and advised the federation and me not to increase the risk any further under these circumstances. So there won't be another match for us at the Olympic Games," he wrote.
"I'm very sad myself, but I'm especially sorry for my partner Marvin, who has arrived here in top form and is ready to play the best badminton on the biggest stage. But also for all the fans who traveled here, planned to tune in and kept their fingers crossed for us," he added.
"A huge thank you again for all the kind messages and support. And especially to everyone who helped me prepare and worked hard to get me ready for Paris. You are the best and I think we have a lot of work to do in the near future. So the second Olympic Games didn't go as planned... But we'll be back for LA," Lamsfuss concluded.
