Who are Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu? Everything you need to know about Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto's final opponents at the Paris Olympics

Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu will be Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto’s final opponents at the Paris Olympics. Neither of the two pairs have qualified for the knockout stage matches, and their battle against each other will be each pair’s only chance to walk away from the Games with a wind.

Mapasa and Yu are a relatively new partnership, having joined forces only in June of 2023. However, in the short time that they've been together, the Australians have made great strides in their game.

The first BWF tournament the two played together was the 2023 Northern Marianas Open, where they lost the second round after a hard-fought battle against Japan's Sayaka Hobara and Yui Suizu.

A little over three months after this, Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu won their first title as a pair, storming to gold at the Victor Koahsiung Masters. Their debut season on the BWF circuit also saw them win the Yonex Bendigo International and the 2023 Sydney International.

The Australian duo had continued their momentum into 2024, winning the Victor Oceania Championships in February in front of a cheering home crowd. Their year has also seen them reach the semifinals of the Australian Open and the Swiss Open. In their quarterfinals match at the latter, the duo had taken down India's Treesa Jolly and Gayathri Gopichand in straight games.

In their second group stage match, they fell short against Tokyo bronze-medalists Kim So-yeong and Kong Hee Yong, with the scoreline reading 21-12, 21-17 in favor of the South Koreans.

They will now take on Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto for their last match at the Paris Olympics.
