National Aquatic Championships 2024: Hashika Ramachandra breaks 13-year-old national record in 400m freestyle swimming

On Tuesday, Hashika Ramachandra broke the national record in the women’s 400m freestyle event that stood for 13 years. The feat came on the first day of the 77th Senior National Aquatic Championships 2024.

Karnataka’s Ramachandra clocked a time of 4:24.70 minutes in the National Aquatic Championships 2024 event, breaking the previous record of 4:25.76 minutes, held by Richa Mishra of Jharkhand.

This is not the first time that Hashika Ramachanra has broken a national record. At the Senior National Swimming Championship in Hyderabad in 2023, she broke another 13-year-old national record in the women’s 200m individual medley event. The then-14-year-old swimmer clocked a timing of 2:21.15, leaving behind Richa Misrha’s record of 2:23.62.

Meanwhile, several other teams performed admirably on Day 1 of the National Aquatic Championships 2024, with Tamil Nadu’s Dhanush Suresh claiming the gold medal in the men’s 200m breaststroke event. Karnataka’s Aneesh S Gowda won gold in the men’s 400m event with a time of 3:56.59 minutes.
