Senior National Aquatic Championships 2024 Medal Tally: Updated standings after the tournament
Karnataka emerged as the overall title winner in the 77th Senior National Aquatic Championships 2024 by winning 33 medals. The event was hosted in Mangaluru from September 10 to 13 (Tuesday to Friday).
Karnataka’s medal haul included 17 gold, 12 silver, and four bronze medals.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu clinched 14 medals, including six golds, to finish second in the National Aquatic Championships 2024 medal tally. Tamil Nadu made a mark in the men’s 4x100m relay event, creating a new national meet record with a timing of 3:45.66.
The Railways Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) team finished third with 19 medals, including four gold.
The RSPB swimming team of Shivangi Sarma, Astha Choudhury, Kanya Nayyar, and Avantika Sudhir Chavan created a new national meet record in the women’s 4x100m freestyle event by clocking 4:01.83.
Maharashtra came in fourth place with 22 medals, including three gold medals, while Bengal and Bihar tied for the fifth spot with three gold medals each.
How did Karnataka swimmers perform at the National Aquatic Championships 2024?
Karnataka won the tournament in 2023 with 38 medals. They retained their title at the National Aquatic Championships 2024 following standout performances from their swimmers, especially Aneesh Gowda and Hashika Ramachandra.
Aneesh, 18, won gold medals in the 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m in the men’s freestyle discipline. The swimming prodigy also clinched another gold medal in the men’s 4x200m relay event as a part of the Karnataka team.
Meanwhile, Ramachandra broke the 13-year-old national record in the women’s 400m freestyle event by registering a timing of 4:24.70.
Ramachandra, aged 16, also won a gold medal in the women’s 4x200m freestyle event.
Aneesh was named the individual champion in the men’s category with four gold medals. Ramachandra, meanwhile, was named the individual champion in the women’s category with three gold and one silver medal.
