Harmeet Desai wins Men’s Singles and Mixed Doubles titles at WTT Feeder Caracas 2024

India’s Harmeet Desai put on a stellar performance at the WTT Feeder Caracas 2024 in Venezuela, securing both the men’s singles and mixed doubles titles. This double victory highlights Desai’s prowess on the international table tennis circuit, as he showcased his skill and resilience across a series of high-stakes matches.

Partnering Krittwika Roy in the mixed doubles section, Desai clinched two titles, making it a memorable tournament for the Indian contingent.

Desai, currently ranked 90th in the world, defeated France’s Joe Seyfried in the men’s singles final in straight games, marking a comprehensive 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-6) victory.

Seyfried, the 149th-ranked player globally, had previously defeated two other Indian players in the men’s singles draw, eliminating Mudit Dani in the Round of 16 and Snehit Suravajjula in the semi-finals.

Desai’s journey to the title included a series of competitive matches, showcasing his consistency and composure on the international stage.

Harmeet Desai earned a first-round bye due to his second seeding and began his campaign by defeating Venezuela’s Jesus Alejandro Tovar Giraldo in the second round. He then went on to edge China’s Li Enci in the pre-quarterfinals, showing impressive form.

In the quarterfinals, he outlasted China’s Ning Xiankun in a tight 3-2 contest, followed by another 3-2 win over Portugal’s Joao Monteiro in the semi-finals, setting the stage for his final clash with Seyfried. Desai’s strong form allowed him to dominate the final and secure the men’s singles title.

Harmeet Desai also partnered Krittwika Roy to win the mixed doubles title, adding to his success at the Caracas tournament. The Indian duo defeated Cuba’s Jorge Campos and Daniela Fonseca Carrazana in a closely contested final, prevailing 3-2 (8-11, 11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 11-5) to clinch the title.

Earlier, they had ousted China’s Wang Kaibo and Liu Xinran in the semi-finals, further demonstrating their strong teamwork and competitive edge.

This victory marked Roy’s second WTT Feeder doubles title in two consecutive weeks, following her women’s doubles win with Yashaswini Ghorpade in Cagliari.


Other Indian performances at the WTT Feeder Caracas 2024

Krittwika Roy also had an impressive run in the women’s singles, advancing to the quarter-finals. Mudit Dani, who teamed up with Guatemala’s Lucia Cordero, reached the quarter-finals in the mixed doubles competition before being knocked out.

In the men’s doubles, Harmeet Desai and Dani reached the quarterfinals but could not advance further, while Snehit Suravajjula, partnering with Argentina’s Martin Bentancor, exited in the semi-finals.
