The Pac-12 Conference's Oregon State football team, led by head coach Jonathan Smith, had a solid season with an 8–5 overall record, including five wins and four losses in Pac-12 play. In his 6th season, Smith orchestrated the team's regular season efforts while Kefense Hynson took over as interim head coach for the bowl game. Offensively, the team is guided by coordinator Brian Lindgren, employing a versatile multiple scheme. Coordinator Trent Bray implements a 3–4 base defense strategy on the defensive end. The Beavers call Reser Stadium home, where they strive to continue their competitive streak in the Pac-12 Conference.

Oregon State Beavers Football Team Introduction

The Oregon State Beavers football team, part of NCAA Division I FBS college football, has a rich history dating back to 1893. Competing in the Pac-12 Conference, they play their home games at Reser Stadium in Corvallis, Oregon. As a longstanding member of the college football scene, the Beavers represent Oregon State University with pride and determination on the field.

Oregon State Beavers Football Team History

Football at Oregon State University began in 1893, shortly after the college, then known as Oregon Agricultural College, permitted athletics. President John Bloss reversed the sports ban after his predecessor's death. William Bloss, John's son, initiated the first team and played dual roles as coach and quarterback. Their debut game on November 11, 1893, resulted in a dominant 64–0 win against Albany College, marking the start of the Oregon State Beavers football legacy.

Oregon State Beavers Football Team Stadium

Reser Stadium, located on the campus of Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, is the outdoor home turf of the Oregon State Beavers football team, competing in the Pac-12 Conference. Originally known as Parker Stadium, when it opened in 1953, it underwent renovations and was renamed in 1999. The recent addition of a new southwest grandstand slightly reduced seating capacity to 35,548 starting from the 2023 season. The playing field, surfaced with FieldTurf, stretches from northwest to southeast, situated approximately 240 feet (73 meters) above sea level, with a press box positioned above the grandstand on the southwest sideline.

Oregon State Beavers Football Team Rivals

Oregon vs. Oregon State:

Oregon and Oregon State are big rivals in football. They've been playing against each other since 1894! They're both in Oregon, but one is in Eugene and the other is in Corvallis, about 40 miles apart.

Their game is usually the last one of the season and used to be called the "Civil War Game." They've played each other a whopping 127 times! Even though the schools don't officially recognize it, the winning alumni association gets this cool Platypus Trophy.

Washington State vs. Oregon State:

Then there's Washington State. They started their rivalry with Oregon State back in 1895. They used to be in the same conference, but things changed in 2021–2024. They're both in the Pac-12, making their games even more intense! Washington State leads the series, but Oregon State has had some big wins, too.

Northwest Championship:

But wait, there's more! This thing called the Northwest Championship involves Oregon State, Washington State, Washington, and Oregon. They've been doing this round-robin thing since 1903. It's not official, so there's no trophy, but it's still a big deal in the Pacific Northwest. In 2002, the Washington Huskies even made homemade t-shirts for it!

These teams all have some serious history and rivalry, which makes football season in the Northwest pretty exciting!

Conference Championships

Oregon State has won seven conference titles in football. These were in four conferences, but two are linked to the current Pac-12. The Pac-12 claims the history of the PCC, and the Athletic Association of Western Universities was its first name.

Oregon State has claimed championships beyond its conference titles. In 1897, it declared itself the "Champions of the Northwest" after defeating Oregon and Washington. Its 1907 season was remarkable, going 6-0 without allowing any points. It beat strong teams like Oregon, Pacific University, and Willamette University.

A highlight was their victory over Loyola, known as St. Vincent's College, in a Thanksgiving Day showdown. This win earned them the title "Champions of the Pacific Coast," marking the only perfect season in Oregon State history where they didn't concede a single point.
