2019 Australian Open, Day 11: Schedule and Order of Play
The semi-final line-ups of the ongoing 2019 Australian Open is set after world no. 1 Novak Djokovic, 16th seed Lucas Pouille, seventh seed Karolina Pliskova and the winner of 2018 US Open, Naomi Osaka won their respective quarter-final matches on Day 10.
With the women's final set to be contested on Saturday, both the semis will take place on Day 11 and Osaka will take on Pliskova with just over a day's gap for preparing for the semis after beating Elina Svitolina.
Just like Osaka, her semi-final opponent, Pliskova also played her quarter-final on Day 10 as she stretched arguably the greatest human being to have played the sport, Serena Williams, in a three-setter that lasted over two hours.
Pliskova was trailing 1-5 in the third set and the American had a match point in the decider. But, with Serena suffering an ankle injury, the Czech never gave up as she won the next five games to set up a semi-final clash against Osaka in a bid to reach her maiden Australian Open final.
Osaka and Pliskova will play their semis, which is the last match of the day session on Rod Laver Arena, after the completion of the first Men's Doubles semis, Women's Singles semi-final that has eighth seed Petra Kvitova taking on unseeded American Danielle Collins and a special Women's Day program.
World no. 2 Rafael Nadal will play his semi-final against 14th seed Stefanos Tistsipas in the first match of the night session on the court. Tsitsipas has been on a giant-killing spree as he beat Roger Federer and handed an in-form Roberto Bautista Agut his first loss in 2019. The winner of this match will enjoy an extra day's rest ahead of the Men's Singles final which is scheduled for Sunday as Djokovic will play Pouille on Friday, Day 12, after their semi-final on Day 10.
The action on RLA will come to an end with one of the two Mixed Doubles semis. As usual, the action on day 11 will begin at 11 AM AEDT (5:30 AM IST).
