2019 Australian Open, Day 5: Schedule and Order of Play
The second round matches of the 2019 Australian Open Men's Singles and Women's Singles are almost done and dusted. Though there were hardly any upsets in the second round, a few matches went right down way to the wire. Top players including the likes of Serena Williams, Venus Williams, and Simona Halep won their second round matches and progressed to the next round. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev are currently playing and are well on their way to victory.
Come tomorrow, the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Marin Cilic, and Maria Sharapova will be in action on day 5, playing their third-round matches.
Day 5 will have over 50 matches across all the courts at the Melbourne Park and the action will begin at 11 AM AEDT (5:30 AM IST). Local favourite and 15th seed Ashleigh Barty will take on Maria Sakkari of Greece to get things underway on Rod Laver Arena. For a second time in succession, two-time defending champion Roger Federer will play in the afternoon session as he will be playing USA's Tayor Fritz before Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki will face each other in a blockbuster clash to round off the day session.
Second seed Rafael Nadal, who defeated Australians James Duckworth and Matthew Ebden in the first two rounds, will take on another Australian Alex de Minaur in his third round match and will get the night session underway on RLA. Women's second seed Angelique Kerber will face yet another local hero Kimberly Birrell to finish off things on day 5.
Mixed Doubles action will also get underway on day 5 with the first round matches and it will be featuring India's Rohan Bopanna, who is teaming up with Zhaoxuan Yang, will take on fifth seeds Robert Farah from Colombia and German Anna-Lena Groenefeld.
