3 Milestones Novak Djokovic could achieve at French Open 2024
Novak Djokovic will enter the French Open as the defending champion. The Serb has had a pretty ordinary 2024 so far by his standards as he is yet to win a title. His best performance so far is reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open and the Monte-Carlo Masters.
Djokovic's numbers so far this season quite uncharacteristic of a player of his stature and calibre. However, we have often seen him save his best for Grand Slams and we could expect another quality display from him at Roland Garros.
Djokovic won his third French Open title and a record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam title at last year's tournament after beating Casper Ruud in the final. The Serb has been unable to defend his title at the clay Major and will be hoping to do so in the coming weeks. He will enter the French Open and has a fair chance of winning if he is at his best.
Moreover, Djokovic could also achieve a few accolades at the tournament. On that note, let's take a look at three milestones the Serb could achieve at French Open 2024.
#3. Winning most matches in Grand Slams
Djokovic is currently second in the list for most Grand Slam match wins behind Roger Federer. The Serb has won 366 matches at Grand Slams, while the Swiss has managed 369. Hence, he will need to win four matches at French Open to surpass his rival's record.
In this context, we have to remember that the Swiss participated in 81 Majors, while the Serb has taken part in 73. Therefore, Djokovic already has a better winning ratio than Federer.
Even if the Serb hasn't been his lethal self so far this season, winning four matches at a Grand Slam does not seem something that is beyond his reach.
#2. Reaching the highest number of Grand Slam quarterfinals
Djokovic has played in 58 Grand Slam quarterfinals till date and holds the record jointly with Federer. Rafael Nadal is next in the list with 47 quarterfinal appearances.
Hence, the Serb will get a great chance at Roland Garros to go past Federer in this regard and hold the record all by himself.
His current form is a concern, but the Serb will fancy his chances of reaching last eight at least and thereby make his 59th appearance in the quarterfinals of a Major.
#1. Djokovic Winning the quadruple career Grand Slam
The Serb has won the French Open thrice. Another triumph in Paris will give him his fourth title there. It would also see him win each Grand Slam at least four times, something that no man in the history of tennis has achieved.
Among the women, too, only Steffi Graf has managed to win the quadruple career Grand Slam. Hence, it will be a great chance for the Serb to equal Graf in yet another aspect. It has to be mentioned that he has already surpassed Graf in terms of the total number of weeks spent as the world No. 1.
