5 biggest power couples in tennis history ft. Andre Agassi - Steffi Graf , Jimmy Connors - Chris Evert
Tennis is a demanding sport both physically and mentally. A top tennis player like Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, Jimmy Connors or Chris Evert must have gone through the rigors of the game throughout their career.
The rigorous schedule of an ATP or WTA Tour often manages to drain a player, often compelling him or her to seek emotional support from within the tennis circuit.
An athlete can truly understand the needs of another and hence, it is not often a bad idea for a tennis player to get involved with another. There have been quite a few instances in tennis where a top player has dated or married another top one. In this article, we will look at five such tennis pairs:
#5. Stefanos Tsitsipas - Paula Badosa:
Tsitsipas and Badosa met in 2020 and got together after a few years. They had a brief split early in 2024 but got together once again to revive their relationship. Tsitsipas is a two-time Grand Slam finalist and has been inside the top five players in the world in the past.
Badosa has also broken into the top 10 in the past and had the highest-ever ranking of World No. 2 in 2022. The couple is very active on social media, too, and has a lot of followers.
#4. Gael Monfils - Elina Svitolina:
Both Monfils and Svitolina have been top tennis professionals, with the latter breaking into the top 10 and staying there for quite some time in the past. Monfils is 38 and approaching retirement at the moment. Meanwhile, Svitolina is 30 years old and has won a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
The couple married in 2021 and are proud parents to a young daughter. As the end of their tennis career approaches, they must be preparing for full-time parenting duties.
#3. Roger Federer - Mirka Vavrinec:
Federer is one of the greatest players of all time to wield a tennis racquet. His wife Mirka was a tennis player, too, and both of them were part of the Swiss team in the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
However, they got married in 2009 only and have since shared two pairs of twins since then. Mirka retired from the game quite early, providing support to her husband and helping him build up a great legacy as a player.
#2. Jimmy Connors - Chris Evert:
They were the first real power couple in tennis history. Both Connors and Evert are former World No. 1 and got together in the early 1970s to forge a dynamic pair. Both became the Wimbledon singles champions in 1974 and were then engaged to be married.
However, they then decided to break up and their engagement was called off soon after. Both Connors and Evert are multiple Grand Slam champions and have lived quite colorful lives since their break-up.
#1. Andre Agassi - Steffi Graf:
With 30 Grand Slam titles and two children between them, Agassi and Graf remain the premier power couple in the history of tennis. Graf is one of the greatest female players of all time, having won 22 Grand Slams and the Golden Slam.
Agassi, meanwhile, has also won a career Grand Slam. He has also won an Olympic Gold in singles. Graf and Agassi got married in 2001, after having met at Wimbledon in the 1990s. They have been together since and live in the United States.
