Fifth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime will take on France's Arthur Cazaux for a place in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Adelaide International.

Auger-Aliassime endured a tough end to his 2024 ATP Tour season as he dropped nine of his last 16 tour-level outings. That said, there were plenty of positives for the Canadian to take from 2024. He reached his maiden Masters-level final in Madrid, won bronze in the mixed doubles competition at the Paris Olympics with Gabriela Dabrowski, and finished fourth in men's singles.

The former World No. 6 has had a respectable start to his 2025 tour campaign, going 1-1 in his United Cup matches for Team Canada (which included a come-from-behind victory over World No. 4 Taylor Fritz). Seeded fifth in Adelaide and having received a first-round bye, he made it to the Round of 16 without playing as his opponent, Denis Shapovalov, withdrew from their match beforehand.

Cazaux, meanwhile, played his first full ATP Tour season in 2024 and accumulated a 10-13 win/loss record. The highlights of the 22-year-old's year included reaching the fourth round at the Australian Open and achieving a career-high ranking of 64 in December.

The Frenchman suffered a first-round loss to Dusan Lajovic at the Brisbane International last week. He has faded better in Adelaide so far, having gotten the better of local favorite Adam Walton to reach the second round of the ATP 250 tournament.

Auger-Aliassime has been in a rut in terms of his performance over the last few years. While the 24-year-old has good groundstrokes from both wings, he struggles with his consistency and margin during crucial points. That said, his first serve is still reliable even when every other aspect of his game is misfiring.

Cazaux's playing style is in the same mold as that of Auger-Aliassime; the Frenchman likes taking the ball early on his forehand, which is by far his USP. He also has a defensively strong backhand and likes mixing up rallies with slices and finesse play.

The key for both players will be to dominate with their forehand and create opportunities for winners. Former World No. 6 Auger-Aliassime has far more experience at winning matches than his younger opponent, though, making him the favorite for this encounter.

Pick: Auger-Aliassime in straight sets.
