Andy Murray allegedly stalked by hotel maid on tour

World No. 2 Andy Murray has been having perhaps the strongest, most consistent year of his career so far, but 2016 has not been without its strange experiences for the Scot. He has revealed that while on tour earlier in this year, and having hung up the “Do Not Disturb” sign on his door, he woke up not only to find the hotel maid in his room, but sitting on his bed and stroking his arm.

“I was still sleeping, it was 7 in the morning, and this woman was on my bed, stroking my arm," he said in an interview promoting the International Premier Tennis League, played in India.

The woman was apparently staring Murray in the eye when he alerted authorities, but it is not sure what action they took.

Following this, Murray says the woman followed him to a number of tournaments across Europe, turning up at hotel rooms there.

“She then turned up at a couple more tournaments in the hotels that I was playing at in Rotterdam and Barcelona. “I don’t know if that is a fan thing but that was a bit extreme,” Murray said.

It is understood that Murray's team reported the incident to the ATP.

Murray, who returned to tennis following a break after the Davis Cup, won his first-round match at the China Open in the capital, Beijing, against Italy’s Andreas Seppi, beating him 6-2, 7-5.

The Scot will now play Andrey Kuznetsov.

Murray last played for the Singapore Slammers in the International Premier Tennis League, having represented the Manila Mavericks in the previous season.
