Jannik Sinner vs Taylor Fritz preview
Top seed Jannik Sinner will take on Taylor Fritz in the group stage of the ATP Finals 2024.
Sinner was up against Alex de Minaur in the first match of the Ilie Nastase Group. The Italian went down a break to fall behind 2-1 in the opening set but was quick to regroup. He bagged five of the next six games to take the set.
Sinner landed the first blow in the second set as he broke de Minaur's serve to go 3-2 up. He backed it up with a hold of serve to make it 4-2 and maintained the lead to secure a 6-3, 6-4 win.
Fritz commenced his campaign here against Daniil Medvedev. Both players remained unshakeable on serve for most of the first set. The Russian served to stay in the set at 5-4 and hit three consecutive double faults to concede the break, and with it, the set, to the American.
Both had a few break point chances early on in the second set. Fritz eventually capitalized on his opportunities and snagged a break in the sixth game of the set to go 4-2 up. He kept Medvedev at bay after that to register a 6-4, 6-3 victory.

Jannik Sinner vs Taylor Fritz prediction
Sinner won 81 percent of his first serve points against de Minaur and struck 18 winners compared to 24 unforced errors. He improved his record for the season to 66-6 as well. Fritz, meanwhile, won 85 percent of points on the back of his first serve and hit 21 winners against 19 unforced errors. It was his milestone 50th win of the season.
Since both won their openers with similar scorelines, they are currently tied for first place in the group. Whoever wins this match, will be in pole position by themselves. A straight-sets win is likely to seal a semifinal berth for the winner as well.
Their previous encounter was their most high-profile one, with Sinner beating Fritz to win the US Open title. The Italian had the last laugh in their match before that as well and needed three sets to win their duel at last year's Indian Wells Masters. The American won their first meeting at the same venue in 2022.
Given Sinner's record this year, he is the outright favorite to win this match. Furthermore, he has an 11-0 record against American players this season and has won 10 of those matches in straight sets. Thus, it wouldn't be surprising to see him extend this record with a win over Fritz.
Pick: Jannik Sinner to win in straight sets.
