ATP Tennis: Nadal, Djokovic, Murray set for Abu Dhabi showdown
The 2014 tennis season is upon us and Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic & Andy Murray will all be vying for the same title at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship starting today.
The 3-day exhibition tournament will see a strong 6-man field including David Ferrer, Stanislas Wawrinka & Jo-Wilfried Tsonga battling it out at the Zayed Sports City Tennis Complex.
Day 1 will see Ferrer facing Wawrinka to kick off the tournament. Both players come into the tournament on the back of their most successful seasons. While Ferrer reached a grand slam final for the first time at the French Open & finished the season at a career-high ranking of number 3, Wawrinka produced some scintillating performances in the grand slams & reached the semifinals of the U.S Open. Both players will be looking to start the season off on a good note & earn a spot in a semifinal against Rafael Nadal.
The other match on Day 1 will see Andy Murray take on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Murray, the reigning Wimbledon champion, will be returning to action for the first time after undergoing back surgery in September. Tsonga too is in a similar position after a knee injury kept him away from the tour for four months. Both men will be hoping for a smooth return & look to be in prime condition for the Australian Open. The winner takes on Novak Djokovic in the semifinal.
Nadal & Djokovic will enter the tournament in the semifinal stage.
