Australian Open 2019, Day 3: Schedule and Order of Play
The singles action in the first round of the 2019 Australian Open is done and dusted, and the tournament is set to enter the next set of matches as the second round will get underway at the Melbourne Park on day 3.
There were hardly any upsets on day 2 as big guns Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Venus Williams and Simona Halep won their opening matches and progressed to the next round.
However, they will be enjoying a day's rest as the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Marin Cilic, Maria Sharapova, to name a few, will be in action on day 3, playing their second round matches.
Day 3 will have over 60 matches across various courts and the action will begin at 11 AM AEDT (5:30 AM IST). In the first match on the Rod Laver Arena, USA's Sloane Stephens will take on Hungary's Timea Babos before local favourite Ashleigh Barty will be in action against China's Yafan Wang.
Two-time defending champion Roger Federer will play in the afternoon session as he will be playing Britain's Dan Evans in the final match of the day session. Second seed in Angelique Kerber will get the night session underway on Rod Laver Arena as she will take on Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil before 2009 champion Rafael Nadal will play Matthew Edben in the final match of the day on RLA.
Doubles action will also get underway on day 3 and it will be featuring the Indian duo of Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan, who will be taking on the Spanish duo of Pablo Carreno Busta and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the second match on Court 5. Leander Paes and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan will also be playing their respective Men's Doubles matches on Court 12.
